By the iPhone's pedometer ("Motion" permission), which keeps seven days of history. Optionally, Arpent reads the Health app: Apple Watch steps are merged with the iPhone's there, over thirty days. Each time you open it, the game rereads each day's total and only converts new steps.
No. Your iPhone counts steps all the time; open Arpent whenever you like and the last days' steps turn into ink.
Nothing. There's no streak to lose and no penalty: the ink waits, and so do the villagers.
Yes. Turn on Health and the wheelchair option in Settings: pushes counted by Apple Watch count as steps.
Never. The valley is imaginary: play in the countryside, in town or on a treadmill.
